What’s happening, and what you can do to stay protected.

We want to make sure our business clients have the information they need to stay protected. We’ve been made aware of an increase in phone scams specifically targeting business banking clients, and we think it’s important to share what we know.

What’s Happening

Bad actors are using technology to spoof bank phone numbers, meaning a call can appear to come from your bank even when it doesn’t. In these calls, the scammer typically poses as a bank employee, sometimes identifying themselves as being from the Treasury Department, and attempts to collect sensitive account information. If successful, they use that information to initiate large, unauthorized transfers.

Prism Bank will never call you unexpectedly and ask for passwords, MFA codes, or sensitive account details. If you receive a call like this, it is not us.

What You Can Do

Staying protected comes down to a few simple habits, especially during busy periods when it’s easier to be caught off guard.

•        Never share passwords, MFA codes, or account information over an unsolicited phone call, no matter who the caller claims to be.

•        Trust your instincts. If something feels off about a call, it’s okay to hang up.

•        Call us directly when in doubt. We’re always happy to verify whether a communication came from us.

•        Share this information with anyone at your business who handles banking or financial transactions.

Awareness is one of the best defenses against this kind of fraud. If you ever have any questions or receive a suspicious call, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly.
